For years, the New York Knicks have been the team that has garnered all of the basketball headlines in New York City.

After all, Madison Square Garden is hailed as “The Mecca of Basketball,” and the Knicks’ fan base is one of the most passionate in all of sports despite all of the recent losing.

But after making the playoffs this past season and then signing both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Brooklyn Nets might supplant the Knicks as the team in New York, and Spencer Dinwiddie is here for all of the tea.

Dinwiddie — who was very active in recruiting Irving to Brooklyn — spoke to Michael Scotto of The Athletic about perceived saltiness on behalf of Knicks fans and the notion that the Nets have already taken over NYC: “(New York’s) fan base runs deep, their history runs deep, and they are fanatics for sure,” Dinwiddie said.

We’ve been the best team in New York for a hot second now.

“Like I said, I don’t really want that much beef with Knicks fans.

I was a Lakers fan from LA.” The Nets are hoping that the arrival of Irving and Durant will eventually give the team a chance to win a championship, but Spencer Dinwiddie’s productiveness as a sixth man is sure to be a key determinant in terms of the team’s overall success.
